With three victories in their last four games, Norwich City is among the most dominant Championship teams going into the international break.
Most remarkably, the Canaries destroyed Hull City 4-0 on Saturday with to goals from Marcelino Nunez and Joshua Sargent in the first half and Kaide Gordon and Borja Sainz in the second.
For Norwich on Saturday, Kellen Fisher was outstanding.
The Hull wideman Liam Millar, who faced full-back Kellen Fisher on Saturday and displayed class in the Championship during a loan stint with Preston last season, will have been the main worry for the Canaries going into their encounter with the Tigers.
Prior to Saturday, Millar had also been playing well; on Tuesday, he had scored a goal against QPR and provided an assist in the Tigers’ 3-1 victory over Stoke City in late September.
However, Fisher remained steadfast and eliminated the danger posed by the Canada international in the afternoon, capping off what ended up being a fantastic day for the 20-year-old at work.
The Canaries starlet was 100% successful in both ground and aerial duels on Saturday, and he won all of the tackles he attempted, according to FotMob.
However, Millar had a difficult afternoon at Carrow Road, mostly because of Fisher’s play. According to FotMob, Millar attempted just two shots and was removed in the 72nd minute. He was also unable to produce a successful dribble.
Fisher has shown that he can silence some of the Championship’s most threatening wingers by effectively holding his ground against Millar.
The England Under-20 international was signed by the Canaries in 2023 from Bromley, a team in the National League at the time. Given how brilliantly he is currently playing in the second division, his signing now appears to be a big transfer coup.
With Fisher’s selection, the Canaries’ manager is proving David Wagner incorrect.
The youthful right-back made his Championship debut under former Norwich boss David Wagner, but he only played in nine second-tier games and 14 appearances overall in the previous season.
However, compared to his predecessor, Fisher has received more faith from new Canaries manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, who has already given him five Championship outings and chosen the young player twice for the EFL Cup.
Based on Fisher’s performances against the Tigers, Hoff Thorup has undoubtedly been able to bring out the best in the 20-year-old by regularly placing his faith in him. Canaries supporters will be hoping for more of the same from Fisher as the season progresses.
Wagner led the Carrow Road team to the play-offs during the previous season, but in May they were crushed 4-0 by Leeds United.
Hoff Thorup’s goal, then, is to lead the Canaries to a top-six finish for the second year in a row. Should his team make the playoffs again, he will be hoping for a better result.
Fisher is expected to play a significant part in the Norfolk team’s attempt to get promoted, based on his recent performances.
With their non-league immigrant, who is flourishing under their new manager, Norwich appears to have struck gold.
