Jordan Henderson and Sunderland are reportedly considering a reunion.

Regarding Jordan Henderson’s potential re-signing during the January transfer window, Sunderland supporters have sent a strong message to sporting director Kristjaan Speakman.

The veteran midfielder is still under contract with Dutch powerhouse Ajax, but he may try to arrange his own departure in the upcoming months because he isn’t happy with his playing time, according to a new story from The Sun. As a result, several Premier League and Championship teams have been mentioned in relation to potential loan agreements; the story even goes so far as to imply that a return to the Stadium of Light “may be in the works.”

After leaving Wearside to play for Liverpool in 2011, Henderson became one of the most known players in English football. He won both the Premier and Champions League titles with the Reds and earned 81 caps for his nation. He signed a controversial contract last summer with Al-Ettifaq, a Saudi Pro League team, but he only stayed in the Middle East for six months before coming back to Europe and signing a contract with Ajax in January.

Now that his future appears to be uncertain once more, most Sunderland supporters want to see the 34-year-old pull off an incredible comeback to the Stadium of Light. “Would you like to see Jordan Henderson back at Sunderland? With rumours circulating that he could leave Ajax and return to England in January,” The Echo questioned readers earlier this week. “Yes, bring him home!” and “No, the Black Cats don’t need him…” were the possible answers.

Following many days of voting, fans have cast a resounding vote on the matter, with roughly 63% saying they would welcome Henderson back to the red and white, while only 37% think the Black Cats are better off without their former player.

Earlier this week, former Sunderland striker Darren Bent discussed the possibility of Henderson coming back to Wearside with talkSPORT, saying: “Going back to Sunderland makes sense.”

His club is that. That was his initial step. I used to play with him there. He’s had an amazing career, and the fans would adore him too. Looking back, you can see what he accomplished and won for England. His career has been amazing.
