It’s commonly stated that hardly many Rangers go on to do better or bigger things after leaving the team.
The club is fervently attempting to alter this long-standing proverb in order to launch a successful player trade strategy at Ibrox.
However, a few of the overpaid old guard had to be given up as part of the team’s decision to reorient the squad and the transfer market.
After a rough few years in Glasgow, one experienced ex-Ibrox star is still looking for a new club over six months after leaving the Rangers in the summer.
Rangers release Kemar Roofe
With his first season at Ibrox, Kemar Roofe—a former player for Leeds United and Anderlecht—was instrumental in leading Rangers to a 55-point victory.
For a player with a tonne of skill but serious injury issues, the next three seasons were a continual source of anguish, despite their big moments.
One of Rangers’ best earners, Roofe spent four years in Glasgow after the Gers paid Anderlecht about £4 million to sign him in the summer of 2020.
It was expected that Roofe would be released at the conclusion of his Ibrox contract at the end of May due to his injury issues.
The 31-year-old Jamaican international striker is still without a club more than four months after leaving Rangers, which is a difficult situation for him to be in.
Rangers signed a “intelligent attacker” in 2020, according to Steven Gerrard, with former sporting director Ross Wilson designating Roofe as the “primary target” at the time of the hitman’s arrival.
Former Rangers forward without a team for more than four months
Even though seasoned custodian Jon McLaughlin was able to seal a deal with Swansea City, Roofe is the only one of the departing Rangers players who is still without a club.
Kemar Roofe has been suggested throughout the summer window with a couple of other names.
First, Roofe’s possible suitors, Sivasspor of Turkey, were named. Roofe might be joining Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, and John Lundstram in leaving the East.
However, despite speculations that Roofe was training with his previous team, Oxford United, a deal never materialised.
Des Buckingham, the manager of Oxford, promptly refuted these claims, telling reporters that “Kemar Roofe has not been training with the club.”
The Glasgow Times claims that there have also been connections to Plymouth Argyle, a Championship team.
There hasn’t been any indication as of now that Roofe and Wayne Rooney will get romantically involved this season.
There’s still a sense of doubt about Roofe’s football career as a result of everything, but perhaps the former Rangers striker has something planned.
Though injuries may have ruined his time in Glasgow, no defender in the world would want to play against a fully-fit Kemar Roofe on his day.
