When duty beckons in January, Rangers will be prepared and ready to re-enter the transfer market.
Nils Koppen has been working at Ibrox for a year, and this week he will speak about the club’s transfer goals as the director of recruitment.
Along with a number of Premier League clubs, Rangers are reportedly linked to a promising young South American prospect already.
Rangers connected to a wonderkid in South America
Dario Osorio, a Chilean attacker, is not a name that many Rangers supporters who don’t watch Danish football are familiar with.
However, the 20-year-old right winger is playing a major role for FC Midtjylland in the Superliga in Scandinavia.
South American players have found success in Danish football in recent years, as evidenced by players like Evander, who was connected to the Rangers, who went on to achieve great success in the Major League Soccer.
Rangers have previously examined this market, with the notable addition of Mohamed Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland as they update their player trading transfer model.
Given that TBR Football refers to the Rangers as “admirers” of Dario Osorio, it is perhaps not surprising to see the team heavily associated with yet another raid on the division.
The team that is most frequently named is Newcastle United, although other teams that are rumoured to be interested include Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Wolves, and even Celtic, rivals of the Old Firm.
Who is Dario Osorio and what potential does the winger have to offer Rangers, considering that clubs in France and Spain are apparently also interested?
Why are Rangers associated with Dario Osorio?
20-year-old Dario Osorio, a winger for the Chilean national team, has made waves at FC Midtjylland.
The attacker began his career in his home country of Chile and eventually made his breakthrough at Universidad de Chile, where as a teenager he made 51 appearances and scored 11 goals.
Due to his impressive performance, Midtjylland reportedly spent €5.2 million (£4.3 million) to sign Osorio to a five-year contract last summer.
The youthful attacker from Chile has grown stronger ever since.
Osorio is making an impression on some of the top clubs in European football after scoring nine goals for Midtjylland the previous season. Many of these clubs witnessed the winger’s goal against Hoffenheim in the Europa League this season.
Midtjylland hosted scouts from teams including Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, and Real Sociedad, according to En Cancha in the player’s home country.
There have even been rumours of connections to Real Madrid and Liverpool, with Anfield having already had a €10 million (£8.4 million) bid turned down this year.
It’s no surprise that the young player has already scored a goal and earned 13 caps for the Chile national team. He even started two of the squad’s three group stage matches during this summer’s disastrous Copa America campaign.
The winger’s playing style has drawn comparisons to that of Argentine icon Angel di Maria, another South American superstar.
All of this suggests that Rangers’ interest in Dario Osorio may be a little overly ambitious given that some of the top teams in European football are pursuing him.
It is also rumoured that FC Midtjylland is asking a record club price for the gifted Chilean.
If this were to happen, Osorio’s transfer fee would surpass the £9 million that Crystal Palace spent for Alexander Sorloth in 2018 and the €12 million (£10 million) that Lazio paid for Gustav Isaksen in 2023.
