With the last players from the Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson eras gradually being phased out, Rangers are undergoing a sort of transition.
In their stead, a number of younger players have joined the team in the hopes of making money for the club when they depart and bringing trophy room hardware to Ibrox.
Having managed under similar circumstances in the past, Philippe Clement is aware of the kind of player Rangers need to get.
Jack MacKenzie should be considered by the Rangers before signing him.
More homegrown players are also required, and Nils Koppen ought to be focussing on a debutant Scotland call-up who perfectly fits that description.
The Light Blues’ recruitment director, Jack MacKenzie of Aberdeen, might add a few pounds to the transfer fund by signing a gifted left-back on a pre-contract deal with journalist Alan Nixon, who claims that English Championship teams are already interested, according to Patreon.
John Carver, the assistant manager for Scotland, is a fan and explains the attributes that led to MacKenzie’s first call-up to the national team:
“Obviously we had the problem with Greg Taylor pulling out, but I was going up to Aberdeen anyhow, and we’ve had a lot of good reports about him,” he added. “It was interesting.”
“He’s clearly had a terrific start with Aberdeen; they play with confidence and have had an incredible start.”
It’s a terrific opportunity for Jack because I appreciate his style of play. He’s a forward-thinking player who enjoys getting high, gets into the final third, and delivers the ball—all of which are exactly how we want to play.
He arrived this morning, and the players around him don’t intimidate him. He started training this morning and has performed admirably. I’m interested to see how he can grow.
Rangers could profit from MacKenzie’s transfer.
MacKenzie, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, contributes a strong physical presence and an optimistic outlook to the full-back position.
In contrast, Ridvan Yilmaz is a quality player when healthy, but since joining from Besiktas, his availability and ability to stay healthy have been major problems.
With Jefte securing the starting spot, a pre-contract move for Jack MacKenzie may make a lot of sense. The Turkey international has been linked to a return home on multiple times.
Rangers would be able to sell Ridvan without having to spend all of the money to get him to Glasgow. With the prior interest, a £3.5 million down payment in a deal that would increase to £5 million could be readily financed.
To free up as much money as possible and lessen the strain on the medical staff, Koppen needs to bring in another homegrown player at a lower salary who would provide a defensive alternative and set-piece threat while enabling Rangers to sell a player they can’t trust.
It is necessary to change the trend of too many talented players leaving the SPFL under Rangers’ noses in recent years.
There is also the added bonus of repeating the move to sign Connor Barron in order to further irritate Aberdeen.
