Igor Tyjon, a young attacker, has been predicted to emerge as Blackburn Rovers’ newest breakthrough youth star due to his quick ascent in the past 12 months.
Despite being linked to moves to Premier League teams Newcastle United and Brighton, Tyjon has been with Rovers for just over a year, having joined their development setup from Rochdale AFC in July 2023.
The 16-year-old, who regularly scored goals for the youth team and was included in a few first-team matchday squads in the Championship last season, committed to the team this summer by signing a two-year scholarship contract, despite interest from several elite teams, including Manchester United.
Tyjon’s reputation has grown even further this season, and as he advances through the ranks, he may soon be positioned for a more regular spot in John Eustace’s senior squad.
Igor Tyjon is favoured by Rovers fan pundits to make his first team debut.
It should not be surprising that Tyjon was given his senior Rovers debut this season given the interest in signing him and the expectations for his potential future.
He became the third-youngest player in Blackburn’s history when he came on as a late substitute in the team’s 3-0 victory over Bristol City on September 14.
When we asked FLW’s Blackburn fan analyst Toby Wilding to name a young player he believes could be the next big star at Ewood Park, he named Tyjon because it is obvious that the club thinks highly of him and that he might be a valuable asset in the years to come.
“Igor Tyjon, who came off the bench against Bristol City last month and became the club’s third-youngest ever player,” he remarked.
“Despite rumoured interest from Manchester United, he signed a new deal with the club in the summer and is now scoring goals routinely at the under-21 level at the age of just 16.
Given his talent and the improvement he is making, I don’t believe it would be shocking to see him play a bigger role with the first squad in the not-too-distant future.
“With all of that in mind, you can see why Blackburn fans are so enthused about him.”
Tyjon has raised the bar at Blackburn.
Although Tyjon is undoubtedly a gifted player, his senior-level playing time needs to be controlled while he still establishes himself and gains recognition.
In recent months, he has primarily continued to play for the young team, and Rovers’ under-21 head coach Mike Sheron praised him after he scored his third Premier League 2 goal of the season against Leicester City.
“His courage and optimism are admirable,” Sheron told the Lancashire Telegraph.
He will strive to move forward, he is optimistic, he takes care of it, he is always dependable when in possession, and he is a constant threat.
He has scored four goals this season and hasn’t played a lot of football, but I believe that was his third goal in three games.
“I think he’s going to be a real threat this season, and it’s great that he’s playing a little more consistently and scoring goals. Hopefully, he gets an opportunity with the first team somewhere down the line.”
Tyjon’s acquisition this summer was a clear indication of Blackburn’s intentions, and his development will undoubtedly be monitored over the coming months and years.
