Hugh Keevins believes that following Rangers’ match against Aberdeen on October 30, Dave King may reveal his identity and speak out.
Writing in the Daily Record [26 October], Keevins forecasts that after criticising the Ibrox hierarchy earlier in the campaign, the former chairman may make a comeback in the days ahead.
In their most recent expression of dissatisfaction with the events at Ibrox following the 1-0 loss at Kilmarnock [October 20], supporters unveiled banners. Philippe Clement’s team is also under pressure to defeat St Mirren in Govan on October 27 before the difficult Pittodrie trip.
“Where is Dave King and what is he doing with Rangers, if anything?” asked Keevins.
Earlier in the season, the previous chairman—who is still a major shareholder—made the decision to publicly criticise Rangers’ leadership. During the disaster at Kilmarnock a week ago, long before the supporters spread banners expressing their disapproval of the board.
Without much effort, one could argue that since King’s public remarks, the situation at home has gotten significantly worse.
King usually uses the Celtic card to draw attention to Rangers’ issues, and this is a domestic dispute. Is he waiting to observe what transpires at Pittodrie on Wednesday before deciding when to break cover?
At Rangers, is Dave King practicing a plan?
It is simple to use a tactic to bury the nails in the coffin when one is not part of a hierarchy where things are publicly challenging and appear to be spiralling out of control.
At Rangers, where he continues to be a major investment, King is doing just that.
In the immediate term, Clement and his team will have an uphill battle on the pitch since a victory over St Mirren is still anticipated. Win and you’re done; draw or lose and you’re doomed.
However, after failing to take advantage of the 2-2 draw between Celtic and Aberdeen on October 19, losing by a late goal to Kilmarnock, Gers supporters have grown accustomed to that.
King will undoubtedly be one of many people closely observing the midweek trip north to play the Dons, which could prove to be quite crucial this season.
