Given that the German scored twice in the 3-1 Champions League victory over RB Leipzig, Brentford views Nicolas Kuhn, a winger for Celtic valued at £25 million, as a possible Bryan Mbeumo replacement.
During a thrilling European comeback at Parkhead, the Red Bull graduate demonstrated to his former employers how far he has gone under Brendan Rodgers, up against the club where he spent some of his formative years.
After an early goal from Christoph Baumgartner, Celtic stormed back thanks to two goals from Nicolas Kuhn.
The kind of finish Brentford fans have been accustomed to throughout Bryan Mbeumo’s tenure in West London was his first of the evening, an equaliser after 35 minutes.
And TBR is aware that Brentford may seek north of the border for a possible replacement, as Mbeumo has been linked to Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United in recent weeks.
If Bryan Mbeumo departs, Brentford may target Nicolas Kuhn of Celtic.
Some of England’s top teams, notably Brentford’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, had shown interest in Mbeumo at the beginning of the summer, according to HITC’s May report.
There’s a reason why Mbeumo is Stan Collymore’s “favourite player” in the Premier League top division.
Furthermore, Mbeumo is threatening to become a very sought-after man by 2025, even though that initial attraction did not actually develop into anything more serious. especially considering his contract status and his early-season performance.
Brentford can choose to extend the versatile forward’s contract by another 12 months, but he is scheduled to become a free agency in 2026. In 2024–2025, he scored eight goals in ten league starts.
In an interview with L’Equipe, the Frenchman also acknowledged that he would like to take Ivan Toney’s place in securing a transfer to one of the top football schools in Europe.
“I’ve been at Brentford for five years, a club that has helped me develop and reach a significant milestone. However, Mbeumo said, “Yes, I would like to play at the best clubs in the biggest competitions.”
“Seeing some major teams interested in me is tempting. We’ll see [what transpires].
Brendan Rodgers praises Kuhn’s contribution to the Champions League victory, but Celtic wants £25 million.
Nicolas Kuhn’s outstanding Champions League performance at Celtic has significantly improved his own standing. Kuhn then put Celtic on their way to a historic European victory by tapping in just before halftime after curling a beautiful, Mbuemo-esque equaliser in off the post and setting up Daizen Maeda with a magnificent, defense-splitting cross.
Reo Hatate had another chance after a weaving run, but the Japan international sealed the victory.
Kuhn, a former Germany Under 21 international, had an incredible nine goals and ten assists in his 16 Celtic games this season.
Even while TBR is aware that Celtic have no intention of selling a player who only moved here in January, if Brentford is prepared to pay the £25 million asking price, it might be difficult to pass up the opportunity to turn a sizable profit.
Ten months ago, Celtic brought Kuhn from Rapid Vienna to Glasgow for a mere £3 million.
He still has room for improvement because he is still young. In fact, I felt that he could have done a better job pressing tonight. But he’s just learning and growing all the time,” Rodgers adds of Kuhn, who the official Bundesliga website recently compared to Bayern Munich speedster Leroy Sane.
He had the ball [against Leipzig] tonight, though, and it was really thrilling. He certainly enjoys scoring the two goals, especially considering that he was a young player who previously played for RB Leipzig.
