On Wednesday night, Rangers’ first team standout played with the “B” team.

On Tuesday night, a Rangers “B” team performed, and Ianis Hagi was one of the highlights.

Findlay Curtis scored a hat-trick to help the Light Blues defeat Partick Thistle 5-0 in a Glasgow Cup match. Ianis Hagi was one senior player that played in the match; following the resolution of a contract issue, the playmaker returned to the first team’s preparations. Hagi has stayed at home because he is not in the roster for Rangers’ senior team’s Europa League match against Olympiacos on Thursday.

Chris Eadie was the other top scorer, with Hagi scoring the first goal. Clinton Nsiala, the summer acquisition from AC Milan, was replaced due to an injury, which caused some disappointment.

Coach Malky Thomson told Rangers TV following the game: “First and foremost, it was a strong team performance. I believe we faced a well-prepared Partick Thistle team in the first half; they had Craig Dargo, with whom I played at Inverness, and had experience both on and off the pitch.

“I believe we dominated the second half and managed to score goals, but we had to exercise patience and keep moving the ball.”

“There were numerous things we were doing that were beneficial, but they didn’t lead to goals. We knew we needed to keep breaking through their defence and generating opportunities because there was a lot of expertise on the pitch.

“Like any game you play, winning the first goal always boosts confidence and makes the team feel more at ease. You witnessed how we clearly went away with it when we scored the goal.
