After Olympiacos supporters were seen hurling objects at Rangers players on Thursday, Keith Hackett thinks UEFA will look into the incident.
During the 1-1 draw on November 7, Liam McLeod stated on BBC Sportsound that Vaclav Cerny was shielded by protective netting from crowd objects.
According to Hackett, delegates attend games and if they are seen, players may be warned or removed from the pitch if the behaviour persists.
Hackett, a former FIFA referee, acknowledged that the Greek team might face retroactive action in an exclusive interview with Ibrox News.
“A Match Delegate is appointed to serve as UEFA’s eyes and ears at every UEFA game,” he stated.
Additionally, he has the power to act. Throwing anything during a football game is not acceptable.
“To invoke a well-oiled procedure, the referee should go to the technical area and communicate with the Delegate.”
Will Olympiacos face UEFA sanctions?
First, a stadium announcement alerting spectators; second, more security around the area where objects are hurled; and third, the option to remove players from the field of play.
“UEFA will look into any action taken, and there is a good chance that a future match will be played behind closed doors.”
Once again, Rangers supporters were outstanding in Greece and provided a positive example for the team.
With a far better response, Philippe Clement’s team would probably believe they might have brought all three points back to Glasgow.
However, the Gers received a fine for setting off pyrotechnics in the home end against Lyon, something Olympiacos might experience this time.
