Under newly hired head coach Le Bris, Sunderland has been the Championship’s surprise package for 2024–2025 and has led the second division thus far with strong performances each week.
After agreeing to a three-year contract as manager in June, the Frenchman has had a fantastic start at the Stadium of Light, maybe performing even better than he could have imagined with such a youthful team.
Jobe Bellingham, Chris Rigg, Romaine Mundle, and Wilson Isidor have all been key players in the Black Cats’ incredible play in recent months, but more players are expected to join Le Bris’ playing squad in the upcoming season so the team can continue to contend for automatic promotion spots.

The Black Cats will undoubtedly add players to their roster in the upcoming year, but their top priority will be to ensure that players like Bellingham, Rigg, Mundle, and Dennis Cirkin stay on Wearside after the January transfer window.
Bellingham, 19, has progressed even more this season after a summer of rumours about his possible transfer to a prominent Premier League team, so there will undoubtedly be interest in him.
Although Manchester United and Real Madrid were observing him from a distance, TEAMtalk reported in July that he declined a move to the top division in preference of remaining with Sunderland, despite interest from Tottenham and Crystal Palace.
HITC recently reported that Manchester United’s management is closely considering a deal that could be reached in January, which would see him move to Old Trafford next summer. Rigg, his 17-year-old midfield partner, has also been crucial to the Black Cats’ success thus far this season. Previous reports have linked him to teams like Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
It is evident that the Black Cats will have a difficult time holding onto their key young players given recent allegations from The Sun that Crystal Palace is planning a £20 million move in January.
In the new year, Le Bris’ team undoubtedly needs some new players, but they must complement his starting eleven’s current players, not take their place.
