Brendan Rodgers’ squad battled for a well-deserved victory at Rugby Park, but Celtic’s victory over Kilmarnock was not without criticism surrounding the referees.
Since the Hoops had to display a different side from their typical silky footballing team, the Celtic manager referred to the victory over Kilmarnock as “fighting football.”
Celtic’s players gave it their all at Kilmarnock, with two particularly impressive players being Kasper Schmeichel and Nicolas Kuhn.
But according to former Hoops hero Peter Grant, Derek McInnes’ squad should have been sent off for a challenge on Celtic attacker Adam Idah.
Joe Wright of Kilmarnock is “lucky” to see red against Celtic.
Wright elbowed Adam Idah in the face during the hard-fought victory, necessitating lengthy medical attention to stop the blood flow.
Grant also believes that the Kilmarnock man was extremely lucky to have been given his marching orders.
“If he [Nick Walsh] watches that again, he’s actually swung the elbow,” Grant said on Celtic TV. I get that you have to jump, and I believe it’s a challenging one, but it’s another matter entirely when you really move your arm in that direction.
“I understand if you use that to gain your balance and get off the ground if you’re not jumping, and then you actually move your elbow in the direction of a player.” He’s fortunate, in my opinion, to simply receive a yellow.
Kilmarnock bench was aware that Adam Idah of Celtic had a red elbow.
Furthermore, Grant saw the Kilmarnock bench’s response, which persuaded the former Celtic player that Wright’s teammates understood he ought to have been dismissed.
“And I’m looking at the Kilmarnock bench and all the players are actually talking to each other because they know,” Grant added. “I just don’t understand why it’s not being looked at again. In fact, they witnessed the incident.
Additionally, Wright was sent off multiple times this season, including at Ross County, where he also got away with it.
Thus, he is extremely lucky. It’s not as though he hasn’t had any prior
Fortunately for Celtic, Idah was unharmed, and the team didn’t lose any points on the pitch as a result of the decision to keep Wright on.
But as the match officials once again took central stage, the event brought up additional VAR concerns.
