Chris Jack claims that if Rangers were to sign Hibernian CEO Ben Kensell, they would have to make a “very hard sell” to supporters.
Jack responded on the Rangers Review (November 13) when Jonny MacFarlane suggested Kensell as a potential contender to take James Bisgrove’s place at Ibrox.
After being beaten back by Jim Gillespie of St. Mirren, Jack and MacFarlane both expressed amazement that the Gers hierarchy would choose the CEO of the team currently at the bottom of the Premiership [The Times, 22 September].
“I don’t know where this rumour came from or where it started, but it’s definitely not something I’ve heard,” Jack stated.
“I would be shocked if it were a step the board would pursue, but I am aware that they are looking for someone who is familiar with the Scottish football scene, so that is one of the things they would like to have checked.
It was going to be difficult to convince Rangers supporters that hiring someone from St. Mirren was the proper course of action, especially considering Hibs’ standing and recent football success.
As pressure grows at Ibrox, the Rangers CEO hunt continues.
It is hardly credible that one of the two major Scottish football teams has been without a CEO for the six months since Bisgrove’s departure in May, demonstrating the club’s lack of direction from the top down.
With the chairman’s position up in the air and the boardroom getting smaller since Bisgrove resigned, hiring a new CEO with Scottish league expertise is proving to be a difficult task.
John Gilligan, the interim chairman who took over when John Bennett resigned due to health concerns, has made replacing Bisgrove his top goal, although not much has been accomplished thus far.
It’s challenging to get a senior board member from a Premiership team, especially one at the bottom of the table like Hibs, which isn’t shocking considering how badly the Gers have been managed lately.
At the present, Celtic and Aberdeen seem to be well ahead on and off the field—and definitely in the table—and the Bears’ current slump will persist unless they make the proper choice for their CEO.
