Brendan Rodgers made Arne Engels the club’s record-ever signing, and he came at Celtic from Augsburg in a press frenzy this summer.
The previous record set when Odsonne Edouard was acquired from PSG in 2018 was shattered when the young Belgian was acquired by Celtic from Bundesliga team Augsburg for a club-record £11.5 million.
Engels has made 14 appearances for the green and white Hoops since arriving, contributing three goals and six assists, three of which have come in the Champions League.
Along with scoring his first Champions League goal for Celtic against Slovan Bratislava, the 21-year-old has been growing under Brendan Rodgers ever since.
Engels is now worth nearly twice as much as he was when Celtic originally signed him, according to a new research by the CIES Football Observatory.
After a spectacular start to the Celtic season, Arne Engels praised the sky rockets.
Engels has adapted well to Rodgers’ Celtic, and despite a few games in which he appeared to fall off, the Belgian has nevertheless delivered quality work.
So much so that, according to CIES’ “Fair Price” tool, Engels is currently valued between £14.1 million and £19.9 million. The value is calculated using the player’s purchase price, inflation, and other factors including who might be able to afford it.
Given that Engels is a full Belgium international, the Belgian is likely to get interest from Europe’s elite teams despite his high-tier pricing range (in relative terms).
Given Engels’ advanced age and amount of untapped potential, even at the exorbitant price tag, the Celtic midfielder would be a steal for any of Europe’s best teams hoping to sign him in the future.
