On the day of the Melbourne Cup, Brimson posted something that caused controversy.
Following an Instagram post on Melbourne Cup day, the Gold Coast Titans have confirmed that star fullback AJ Brimson has no case to answer.
Knights Choice, the Melbourne Cup winner, was paying $101 to win one of the most renowned races in the world when Brimson made a winning wager on him.
Brimson tried to white out other wagers in his display of winnings rather than cropping the picture to remove them.
Given that rugby league players are prohibited from placing bets on the sport, the fullback’s accidental leaving of what seemed like an image of a rugby ball as one of the other bets sparked a flurry of comments wondering exactly what the bets were.
However, the Titans said on Thursday that Brimson had been exonerated of all charges following a probe by the NRL integrity unit.
“The Titans can confirm following all relevant enquiries relating to a social media post on AJ Brimson’s Instagram account, the NRL has found no evidence to indicate Brimson has breached the gambling provisions of the NRL Code of Conduct,” the Titans said in a statement.
“No further comment will be provided on the matter.”
It would have been shocking if any illicit activity had gotten past the monitoring system because the NRL works closely with all of the betting companies that offer NRL odds.
In addition, Brimson apologised for the tweet and confirmed on social media that he had been exonerated of any misconduct.
