Tyler Bindon, a defender for Reading, had a memorable night for his nation as New Zealand defeated Vanuata 8-1 in World Cup qualifying, and the young player scored.
Since making his debut in the first squad last season, 19-year-old Bindon has already made over 60 appearances for the Royals, placing among the top three players in the previous season’s Player of the Season survey.
Bindon, who has occasionally led the team this season, opened the scoring in a 2-0 FA Cup victory over Fleetwood Town earlier this month.
The centre defender, who has played in every League One game for Ruben Selles’ team thus far, has established himself as a staple for the All Whites and even made an appearance at the summer Olympics.
Chris Wood, a striker for Nottingham Forest, also scored two goals in ninety seconds, while Bindon scored New Zealand’s fifth and sixth goals of the evening.
With one game left at stage two against Samoa on Monday, New Zealand advances to the third round of qualifying for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Reading’s other two international players this week are Charlie Savage (Wales) and Basil Tuma (Malta). The Royals will play again on Saturday against Peterborough United.
