Chris Casper, formerly a favourite at Reading, has been named Academy Manager at Burnley, his hometown team.
Casper, a Manchester United youth, made an impression while on loan at the Royals in 1998 and returned for £300,000 on a permanent basis.
The defender, who had grown to be a fan favourite, had to retire at the age of 24 after breaking his leg at Cardiff City on Boxing Day 1999.
Despite brief stints in management, the former England Under-21 player served as Salford City’s director of football until this year, where he collaborated with players including Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, and Gary Neville.
The 49-year-old’s father had a lengthy history with Burnley as a manager and player, therefore he grew up a Burnley supporter.
“It’s fantastic,” Casper said on the club’s website. Being here is a luxury. I was born and raised in the town, so it’s great to be a part of my local club now.
Perhaps it’s destiny to follow in my father’s and my son’s footsteps. Being here feels unreal, but it’s truly a dream come true.
Burnley wants to regain their Category One Academy status, which they lost in 2022, and their first team is now dominating the Championship’s top division.Pa
