According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Rangers may be able to recruit Peterborough star Kwame Poku before English clubs can in January.
Senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke stated on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that the Scottish powerhouses might begin negotiations to persuade him to relocate to Glasgow as early as January.
With his contract with the League One team coming to an end at the end of the season, Poku, 23, has been predicted to be a “smart signing” for any interested club.
According to sources, the cross-border transfer regulations would allow Rangers to acquire the winger for a “minimal” compensation sum.
But Peterborough would rather bring in a price than lose him for nothing, and several Championship teams are considering a move to sign him in January.
Given Rangers’ challenging financial circumstances, the winger has been mentioned as a possible cheap trade.
Given that the player is only 23 years old, there would be a desire to sell him later for a profit, which is Nils Koppen’s favoured strategy.
In January, Rangers plan to sign Kwame Poku.
Numerous clubs are interested in giving Poku the opportunity to climb up as a result of his exploits in the English football third division.
The winger has contributed one goal per game on average in 17 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring ten goals and dishing out seven assists.
There is now a belief that he is prepared to advance in his profession after adding a steady and dependable final product to his repertoire.
Poku moved up the tiers from League Two team Colchester in the summer of 2021, and he has had two stints under Darren Ferguson to refine his talents.
Peterborough has a track record of developing young players before selling them for a profit, as demonstrated by Ronnie Edwards’ summer transfer to Southampton for £3 million.
Posh will try to sell Poku in a permanent January transaction because of their past success, continuing their pattern of purchasing low and selling for a profit.
Nonetheless, Ibrox is certain they can persuade the player to sign a free contract, and in January they may formally begin negotiations for a pre-contract agreement.
