For far too long, Rangers supporters have complained that the team’s academy has failed to develop a striker who can win over followers.

For the better part of 20 years, Auchenhowie has seen a lack of attacking potential emerge from Rangers, a team founded on the shoulders of goal-scoring titans.

However, one former Rangers academy striker has been making noise in the Orient while Nils Koppen and company work to buck this tendency.

A little more than a year ago, the former Ibrox star was vocal about his abrupt departure from the club, and he has now just missed the opportunity to promote his new team in China.

While Kevin Muscat, who is associated with the Gers, has garnered the most attention at the end of the Chinese Super League season, Juan Alegria has also been in the news in the Red Dragon.

Colombian striker Alegria has been attempting to propel fallen Chinese powerhouse Guangzhou back into the country’s top division as Australian coach and former Rangers player Muscat assembles a championship-winning team at Shanghai Port.

However, the 22-year-old has been extremely unlucky as the Chinese domestic season comes to an end, and his new team just missed out on Super League promotion.

As his side finished third in China League One, Juan Alegria scored an incredible eighteen goals, making him the league’s second-leading goalscorer.
