Lewis Wing, a midfielder for Reading, thinks his goal against Crawley Town, which took home the EFL Goal of the Month award, may be the “best of his career.”
The 29-year-old, who earned Player of the Season in his first season, is a clear favourite among the supporters.
The former Wycombe Wanderers and Middlesbrough player, who is known for his deadly long-range finishing, has already scored some goals that will stick in your memory, especially from free kicks. He finished with 11 goals the previous season and has now scored three this season.
But his goal in last month’s 4-1 victory against Crawley Town defeated fierce opposition to earn him League One’s October Goal of the Month award. “I think the goal is definitely up there with the best of my career – in terms of technique, scoring in front of home supporters, then going on to get all three points it certainly made it a more special goal,” Wing told the EFL in an interview prior to accepting his prize.
“Wing was well over 30 yards out when he picked up the ball in midfield, defenders backed off and invited to shoot,” stated Don Goodman, the lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit.
A huge error! His long-range wonder goals are nothing new, and he obliged once more! It left his boot like an arrow headed for the top corner of the Crawley net, unstoppable, so this one must be right up there with his greatest.
