If Ruud van Nistelrooy gets hired by Coventry City, Manchester United may be able to use that information to find a player similar to Viktor Gyokeres.
Should he take over as manager of Coventry City, Ruud van Nistelrooy might be able to assist Manchester United in finding the “next Viktor Gyokeres.” Before being fired at the beginning of November, the Dutchman rejoined the team in July to help Erik ten Haag. After a 3-0 victory over Leicester City at home on Monday, Van Nistelrooy sadly left Old Trafford himself, ending his time as interim manager.
In the brief period between Ruben Amorim’s employment and ten Haag’s departure, he managed four games. The Portuguese head coach has a solid foundation to build upon following the conclusion of the international break thanks to two victories against Leicester, a victory over PAOK, and a draw with Chelsea.
now the dramatic dismissal of former United player Mark Robins earlier this month, the role at Championship team Coventry has been open, and he has now applied for it.
According to reports, Sky Blues supporters believe Van Nistelrooy is the best candidate for the position.
Van Nistelrooy may face fierce competition from a number of other applicants for the role. It has also been reported that current England U21 manager Lee Carsley and former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard are interested in the position.
Manchester United will have to look elsewhere in January in order to bolster the team after losing out on acquiring Gyokeres. Van Nistelrooy might, however, offer a route for Coventry players to eventually join the Amorim project if he were to secure his first permanent management position in England.
Despite being in 16th place in the Championship following last year’s FA Cup semi-final, which ended in penalties, the Red Devils are aware of the talent that the Coventry players possess. In the historic cup match that United just won, Bobby Thomas, Ben Sheaf, and Haji Wright all made very strong performances.
