Harry Winks, who plays in the same division as Tottenham Hotspur, is reportedly asking for €38 million to return to Tottenham Hotspur from Leicester City.
According to an article on the Spanish news website Fichajes, Harry Winks is a target for Tottenham Hotspur. The North London powerhouses are looking to bolster their midfield next season, and they have their sights set on an academy graduate. They are prepared to spend €38 million to acquire him from Premier League team Leicester City.
Harry Winks and his fluctuating career
Since Harry Winks transferred from Tottenham Hotspur to Leicester City in July 2023, his career has accelerated. Born in Hemel Hempstead, the Englishman spent the majority of his early years with Tottenham. At the age of six, he began playing for the North London club, and he rose through the ranks to make the first squad.
The 28-year-old performed admirably for Tottenham after making his first appearance in the first squad, playing more than 200 games for the North London outfit. Before being loaned to Sampdoria by Tottenham, Winks, however, struggled for prominence in the 2021–2022 season. After joining Leicester City last year, the academy product was able to fully establish himself.
Winks contributed to Leicester City’s 2023–24 EFL Championship victory and their return to the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur is one of the possible suitors for the English midfielder ahead of the two transfer windows next year, despite the fact that he has been in and out of the starting lineup this season.
Is a comeback to fairy tales imminent?
Although unexpected, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Harry Winks makes sense. Ahead of the two transfer windows in the upcoming year, the North London powerhouses are searching the market for a playmaker. The future of Yves Bissouma at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is questionable, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is probably going to make his final departure from the team during the summer transfer window of 2025.
Tottenham is now considering a number of candidates, including Gabri Veiga, and Winks is one of them. With his extensive Premier League experience, the Englishman may quickly return to the North London club. According to the report, they are willing to pay €38 million to acquire him from Leicester City.
It’s uncertain if the former Premier League champions would agree to a €38 million offer to let Winks go the following season. Tottenham hopes to re-sign the 28-year-old English midfielder next year, and the amount is appealing given his age profile and contract status.
