Some well-known commentators are paying close attention to the consequences from Celtic defender Liam Scales’ red card for the Republic of Ireland versus England.

Roy Keane blasted the Celtic star for “stupidity” this morning, according to 67 Hail Hail, as the Irish collapsed inside Hampden as a result of his dismissal.

Even Harry Kane said that Liam Scales’ dismissal was “for the best” because it allowed his England teammates to win handily.

The manager, Heimir Hallgrimsson, said that there was “no need” to send Scales off after the penalty was given and a second yellow was shown, which somewhat changed the Republic of Ireland camp’s opinion of the Celtic custodian.

Now it’s Gary Lineker’s turn. Almost immediately after Liam Scales made the lengthy journey down the Wembley tunnel, the former England international told Micah Richards what he had to say.

“But I have to give Ireland a little bit of credit in the first half, the way they set up in their formation, they all knew the jobs,” Richards said on The Rest Is Football [5m 25s].

“I thought the organisation and distances were excellent, and the first half was shot-free. Therefore, you’ve done a good job if you’re leaving Ireland defensively.

“Yes, it was in the second half; the game was really ruined by the send-off.”

“Yes, I believe it’s fair to say, as you both pointed out, that the ‘Scales’ of the game tipped in England’s favour when they were given the red card,” Lineker retorted.

Richards: “What took you so long to come up with that? How much time did you need?

Lineker: “You put it on the group chat about 12 seconds after it happened, so you know how long it took me.”

Liam Scales may respond to his detractors in three crucial Celtic games.

Now that Scales is back at Celtic Park, Brendan Rodgers will continue his undefeated domestic season with the goal of qualifying from the Champions League group stage.

Everything begins this weekend as Celtic’s schedule moves into the busiest time of the year. Scales, if chosen, has three crucial games where he can silence his detractors.

Celtic versus Heart of Midlothian

Celtic vs. Brugge KV Club

Celtic versus Aberdeen

In addition to helping his club maintain their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, Scales will have helped Celtic qualify for the Champions League if they win all three of these games.

In the wake of a disappointing international break, what better way to silence the sceptics?
