Timm Klose, a former centre-back for Norwich City, has declared his retirement from professional football.
The 36-year-old, who gained popularity among fans while playing at Carrow Road, most recently served as a liaison between the squad and coaching staff for FC Basel’s under-21 team. However, his one-year contract with the team ended this summer.
Four months later, the former Swiss international announced on his personal Instagram profile that he was ending his career, writing: “That’s it, folks. A wonderful adventure is coming to an end after many years. Even the difficult and challenging moments have helped to mould me into the person I am today, even though it hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows.
“I want to express my gratitude to my family and friends for their unwavering support, as well as to [agency] Giallanzasport for opening doors for me and always being there for me, no matter what!
“My wife deserves the greatest gratitude because she has taken in every circumstance, every emotion, and has been there for me through all of my highs and lows since the beginning.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Basel, Thun, Nurnberg, Wolfsburg, Norwich City, and Bristol City for having the guts to sign me. On and off the pitch, I have always strived to put them first and given my all.
“My family and I am really proud to have played for Switzerland and represented our nation; it was amazing. Thank you! It’s time for a change now, and I’m eager to get started on all the initiatives I’ve already begun. What a thrilling adventure!
“Until we cross paths again… Timm, love.”
After joining Norwich from Wolfsburg in January 2016, Klose played for the team for more than five years. He made an initial impression in the Premier League but was unable to stop one of the two relegations he endured while wearing the yellow and green uniform.
His later years in Norfolk were marred by injuries, but in 2019, he helped Daniel Farke’s team win a title and return to the first division. Stars of that promotion, such as Ben Godfrey, Emi Buendia, and Jamal Lewis, were among those who responded to his declaration.
Alex Tettey, Sam McCallum, Max Aarons, and Christian Fassnacht, a current City winger, also expressed gratitude to his countryman.
