Ianis Hagi acknowledged that it makes sense for Rangers to leave, but he pledged to help them get closer to Celtic.

In response to rumours, the 26-year-old acknowledged that he is uncertain about his future at Ibrox after assisting Romania in defeating Cyprus 4-1 on Monday [18 November].

Despite this, he is committed to helping the Light Blues overtake Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, highlighting the “unpredictable” aspect of football.

GSP cited Hagi as saying, “It makes sense to write that I am leaving Rangers” [November 19].

“Although my circumstances at the club are unclear, I simply want to perform at my highest level for this team.

“We need to catch up to Celtic in the crucial few weeks we have left, but football is unpredictable.”

Ianis Hagi admits leaving Rangers and brings up Celtic.

After being shut out for the first two months of the season, Hagi has only played 50 minutes in the league.

A contract issue led to the former Genk star’s exile from Philippe Clement’s team, but it was resolved when he consented to forgo a wage-rise provision [Daily Record, 1 October].

Thus, Clement reintegrated him, and the board and players also put pressure on him to do so.

The Romanian international is approaching his prime, so it would be understandable if he left the team, but the Belgian strategist does not appear to be convinced of Hagi’s potential.

However, Hagi’s declaration that he is dedicated to helping Rangers shock Celtic is evidence of his mindset and respect for the team.

It would take an enormous effort to overtake Celtic and Aberdeen before the end of the season, since the Gers are already nine points behind them in the race for the championship.

However, when Clement and company play Celtic in the League Cup final at Hampden on December 15, they will have an opportunity to defeat them.
