Ever since he joined Coventry City in 2020, Ben Sheaf has been an outstanding player for the team.
The defensive midfielder, who had been a member of Arsenal’s youth setup since the age of 13, made the move permanent a year after initially arriving on a season-long loan.
Sheaf has made a name for himself as one of Coventry’s most important players during his tenure. He was one of the first names on the squad sheet whenever he was available under former manager Mark Robins.
Given his performances, it is not surprising that he is regarded as one of the Championship’s top players. According to FotMob’s stats, the 26-year-old has delivered three complete seasons of average ratings above 7.28 after permanently relocating to the CBS Arena.
It should come as no surprise that several Premier League players have taken notice of his consistency, but he is still a Sky Blues player as of right now.

Coventry will feel less pressure as a result of knowing that Sheaf won’t depart this summer on a free transfer. They won’t be able to demand a high price if a club approaches for him, though, as he only has a year and a half left on his deal.
Last month, the 26-year-old acknowledged that teams were interested in him throughout the summer, with Fulham and Ipswich reportedly being among them. Another team mentioned as a possible suitor was Luton Town, and there were also unexpected connections to Manchester United.
In January, that interest might be rekindled, but as of right now, there is no indication that anyone else is interested in signing the midfield player.
The amount Coventry might seek is still up in the air if clubs approach them to sign Sheaf. The Sky Blues analyst for FLW recommended a minimum worth of £20 million. However, with only 18 months left on Sheaf’s current contract, this number suddenly sounds excessively optimistic.

Although Sheaf will probably want to finish this season, the Sky Blues management will probably tolerate Sheaf moving to join a Premier League team if they are unable to make it to the legendary top division.
He deserves a better opportunity after providing them with a solid four years of service. It’s unknown if he meets the necessary standards, but based on his Championship accomplishments, he clearly has a lot of talent.
Sheaf will know that the ball is firmly in his court as January 2025 approaches, thus he is unlikely to sign a new contract.
