In a light-hearted reply to former Rangers great Nacho Novo’s suggestion of a boxing match, Celtic icon Scott Brown suggests stepping it up with a UFC-style bout.
During Thursday’s Hotline LIVE, Brown dismissed Novo’s light-hearted comments in which the Spaniard alluded to sparring with the former Celtic captain. Brown, who currently manages Ayr United and occasionally acts in Celtic’s Christmas commercial, couldn’t help but make fun of Novo’s size, saying:
“He’s criticised me? The little, little man? I wouldn’t have to show up at all. Can’t we attend the UFC? I’d be okay with a little chokeout.
During an interview, Novo, who recently dabbled in boxing, made the first remarks by cheekily asserting that he still had Brown “in my back pocket.” Novo, however, moderated his humour by praising Brown, referring to him as a “winner” and recognising the professional accomplishments of his erstwhile Glasgow rival.
Brown joked, smiling at the contradictory message:
“In the end, he was pleasant! “He’s not a bad guy, but I want to beat him up!”
After considering Novo’s reasons, Brown wondered why the former Rangers forward is so eager to enter the ring:
In any case, why does he want to fight people? Batting Nacho Novo is something I’m not sure I want to do. It will not be a fair battle. What makes him want to strike the elderly man?
Novo’s intentions to box have been known for a while; earlier this year, he was scheduled to face social media personality Caz Mulligan at Glasgow’s Hydro, but the match was called off due to low interest. In typical fashion, Brown made fun of the circumstance by adding:
I’m not sure if I qualify as an influencer. Is he merely attempting to strike the elderly man?
I believe we all know who would prevail in a boxing bout between the two, let alone a UFC match.
