Norwich City are determined to keep Borja Sainz at the club beyond January despite reported interest from Galatasaray.
According to Pink Un, the Championship side plans to resist any winter transfer bids for the Spanish playmaker. However, Gala Haber claims that Sainz has expressed a desire to join the Turkish giants.
Sainz has been a standout performer for the Canaries this season, delivering an impressive 15 goals and two assists in 18 league appearances.
Borja Sainz Transfer Update
Reports from Turkey suggest Norwich have placed a €22 million (£18.2 million) price tag on Sainz amid Galatasaray’s interest. However, the club is reportedly unwilling to sell their star player midway through the season.
The 23-year-old is contracted to Norwich until the summer of 2026, but his long-term future remains uncertain. Should the club fail to secure promotion, Sainz could enter the final year of his contract next season, potentially forcing Norwich to sell to avoid losing him for free.
Manager Johannes Hoff Thorup has already tasked sporting director Ben Knapper with negotiating a contract extension to keep Sainz at Carrow Road. Additionally, Spanish outlet El Correo reported in September that Athletic Bilbao is monitoring Sainz’s situation.
The Importance of Sainz to Norwich
Sainz has become indispensable for Norwich following the summer departures of Gabriel Sara and Jonathan Rowe. Currently the Championship’s top scorer, he leads the division with five more goals than his nearest rival, Josh Maja.
If Norwich hopes to secure promotion, retaining Sainz beyond January is essential. The Canaries’ next match is an away game against QPR on December 7.
Selling Sainz Would Be a Major Setback
Although an £18.2 million fee would provide significant funds, selling Sainz in January would likely derail Norwich’s promotion hopes. His exceptional form this season ensures his transfer value will remain strong through the summer, and promotion could even convince him to stay and sign a new deal.
Norwich must prioritize their promotion campaign over short-term financial gains, delaying any major decisions about Sainz’s future until the end of the season.
