Steven Naismith has praised Ianis Hagi’s remarkable attitude at Rangers, especially after enduring a period of exile from the first team.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene (1 December) following Rangers’ 1-0 win over St Johnstone—where Hagi’s involvement forced Jason Holt into an own goal—Naismith highlighted the Romanian’s resilience. Despite limited game time in recent years, the 26-year-old has worked his way into Philippe Clement’s plans after excelling with the B team at Auchenhowie.
Naismith commented: “What’s really impressive is that when he was out of the team and seemed to have no future, he didn’t just give up or go through the motions in training. Instead, he consistently played with the B team, scored goals, regained fitness, and likely mentored younger players. That preparation has made him ready to contribute when called upon.
“Although he might tire, he’s showing he’s capable. He proved it for Romania during the last international break, and now he’s beginning to do the same for Rangers.”
Ianis Hagi: A Vital Asset for Rangers
In recent weeks, Hagi has brought fresh energy to Rangers, earning praise from supporters for his professionalism and commitment. After only two appearances in the first 11 Premiership fixtures this season, Hagi is now playing a more prominent role. His influence was evident in the 1-1 draw against Dundee United, where his second-half introduction shifted the game’s momentum. This progress earned him his first league start of the campaign at McDiarmid Park.
While Hagi’s exclusion from Rangers’ European squad is disappointing, fans are hopeful the team can advance to the knockout stages, potentially giving him a chance to contribute.
With players like Mohamed Diomande struggling for consistency, Hagi’s presence provides crucial competition and depth. His perseverance and readiness to seize opportunities underline his value to the squad, showing why he remains a key figure at Ibrox.
