In recent weeks, Robin Propper’s efforts while wearing a Rangers shirt have received a lot of attention.
Despite Philippe Clement’s later admission that he had been knocked, the central defender had to be substituted at halftime this past weekend.
However, in the first forty-five minutes against St Johnstone, Propper was anything but convincing, and Kevin Thomson believes the Dutchman is having a hard time adjusting.
The player has previously acknowledged this and stated that he needed to adjust to other teams’ long ball tactics as well as Clement’s frequent rotation of the squad.
The 31-year-old was benched for games against Aberdeen, Hearts, and Motherwell because he was thought to be a weak link in some of them, and he hasn’t seemed to have improved since coming back.
Concerned about Robin Propper’s Rangers remarks
Alan Hutton and Michael Stewart acknowledge that Robin Propper’s performances for the Rangers are concerning.
More than that, though, his recent remarks would also worry them.
The Dutchman acknowledged that it is taking him some time to adjust to Scottish football and its rough and tumble, but he maintained that by the end of the season, he will have made a name for himself in the starting lineup.
However, Stewart believes that the statements made to the Dutch media are a “red flag” and would indicate to the opposition that he “doesn’t fancy it” and is easily manipulated.
“What about Propper again?” he asked on the Scottish Football Social Club on Premier Sports. For example, you could practically tell Killie wasn’t feeling very enthusiastic when he arrived at halftime of the game. Off yesterday at halftime once more.
As the season progresses and the majority of clubs adopt long ball, he has been discussing how “I’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet.”
Hutton interrupted, saying, “That’s concerning.”
Stewart continued, saying, “Don’t you think that’s a warning sign? If another team saw that, they would say, “He doesn’t fancy this domestically.”
“Get him on the defensive and get him up and up.”
Hutton believes that’s just what St Johnstone did throughout the game’s opening half, when they were dangerous and Propper had trouble.
The ex-Rangers right-back went on to say: “I believe they (St Johnstone) did that.” Watch the first fifteen minutes? I believe Propper was the aim.
When he mentioned that teams play long ball and that it will take him some time to adjust, it was concerning.
“No, a central defender is what you are. Technically speaking, he’s good with the ball, but you have to go out there and be aggressive with whoever you’re playing against.
“Does he fancy it?” is the red sign for me. Kilmarnock has minor injuries and must leave.
I was listening to the radio when I heard that St. Johnstone was going after him at the beginning of the game. After that, he suffered a minor injury and left at halftime. That is concerning.
The better Rangers alternative is Leon Balogun.
In response to that query, Hutton said, “I believe so.” “I believe he is the one with speed. Souttar has hit a game, in my opinion.
“Balogun has the turn of speed and is also more physically fit.
The main query is whether he can play every three days given his age. Is it possible for him to travel and play in Europe? The manager clearly doesn’t think he can.
“Propper should be the player replacing Connor Goldson, but he isn’t accomplishing that. I don’t believe Propper is taking use of the opportunities that exists.
