Aberdeen Lose Dimitar Mitov for Rest of 2024 Due to Injury
Aberdeen’s hopes in the Scottish Premiership title race have taken a hit as goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov is set to miss the rest of the calendar year following a hamstring injury. The Bulgarian international was substituted at half-time in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Hearts, with Ross Doohan stepping in. Mitov’s injury is expected to sideline him for at least six weeks.
The 27-year-old, who joined Aberdeen from St Johnstone in June, has been instrumental for the team, securing seven clean sheets since arriving at Pittodrie. However, he will be unavailable for the crucial top-of-the-table clash with reigning champions Celtic.
“He’s been excellent, but we have to rely on the squad to find solutions and maintain a positive outlook,” said manager Jimmy Thelin. “Ross stepped up in the last match and performed well, and we’re confident he’ll continue to deliver for us.”
Aberdeen currently sit four points behind league leaders Celtic, having played one game more, as they prepare for tonight’s critical encounter.
Motherwell’s Zach Robinson Out for the Season
Motherwell striker Zach Robinson has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season after suffering a serious injury. The forward, who joined the club in the summer, sustained a ruptured Achilles during a training session midweek. This setback comes after his appearance as a second-half substitute in last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat to Hibernian.
“This is devastating news,” said manager Stuart Kettlewell on the club’s website. “We’ve been making good progress with other players returning to fitness, but losing Zach like this is a big blow. With seven players now unavailable, it’s far from an ideal situation.”
Robinson’s injury occurred during a light training drill as the team prepared for their upcoming match, adding to Motherwell’s injury woes this season.
