Celtic have an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of the Premiership table on Wednesday night when they face Aberdeen.
Brendan Rodgers’ side currently enjoy a four-point lead, with a game in hand, and will be confident of securing three points at Pittodrie.
Rodgers rotated his squad on Saturday, resulting in a dominant 5-0 victory over Ross County, following their midweek Champions League draw. Liam Scales was among the changes, stepping in for Auston Trusty and finding the back of the net after previously being replaced by the American defender.
Cameron Carter-Vickers remains Celtic’s defensive cornerstone, often partnered by Scales. However, Scales may feel unlucky to have been sidelined, not due to poor performances, but because Trusty’s arrival has added a new dimension to the backline.
Former Arsenal and Sheffield United player Auston Trusty has begun to demonstrate the quality that prompted Celtic to secure his services. Speaking on Go Radio, Barry Ferguson praised the 26-year-old, noting his growing confidence and influence at the heart of the defence.
“Now that he’s playing regularly, you can see him getting stronger and stronger,” said Ferguson. “He’s a big, powerful, and quick defender who has been an excellent signing for Celtic. You’re starting to see why the club spent the money to bring him in.”
Trusty, who has been rated 7.24 on WhoScored in the Premiership so far, still has milestones to achieve, such as scoring his first goal and lifting his first trophy with the Bhoys. With a League Cup final against Rangers looming later this month, he won’t have to wait long for a chance to make a significant impact.
