Norwich City are determined to secure a play-off spot again this season despite a mixed start under new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, who took charge in the summer.

The January transfer window presents a critical opportunity for the club to strengthen their squad and close the gap on their top-six rivals.

If funds are available, new signings could be pivotal in bolstering their chances of promotion to the Premier League. Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes, speaking to Football League World, expressed hopes for up to three signings in January, emphasizing the need for reinforcements in attack and defensive midfield.

“In an ideal world, a striker and a winger would be great,” Downes said. “We’ve been crying out for a defensive midfielder ever since [Alexander] Tettey left. Kenny McLean has filled the role, but when he’s unavailable, it’s clear we lack a proper defensive option. Jacob Sorensen isn’t at McLean’s level, and even McLean isn’t a true defensive midfielder, which is critical if we want to push for promotion and compete in the Premier League.”

Currently, Norwich rely heavily on Borja Sainz, who has scored 15 goals this season. With Josh Sargent struggling with injuries, adding another forward to support the attack could be a strategic move. Additionally, securing a defensive midfielder would help solidify the team, especially with McLean turning 33 next month.

While it remains unclear how much Norwich will have to spend, targeted additions in January could significantly enhance their promotion prospects.
