Without filtering Charlie Nicholas says he’s been made to feel uncomfortable entering Celtic Park because of his direct criticism of the team.
The 62-year-old is known for speaking his mind, and during his time as a pundit, he notoriously criticised Peter Lawwell, Dermot Desmond, and several other prominent Parkhead personalities. However, Nicholas, who has no qualms about delivering it up straight, has admitted that the football that was played under Ange Postecoglou made him a return matchday wagerer. In addition, the former Soccer Saturday commentator assured Parkhead supporters who were brassed off with opinions that he had no ill will.
On The Warm-Up with William Hill, he stated: “I returned to watch Celtic. Three of my four brother-in-laws have Celtic season tickets. “Look, if you want to sit in and watch the game with us, we have an occasional ticket,” they began. The north stand, where the teams emerge, is directly across from it.
“I was really delighted when Big Ange approached Celtic, and I thought, ‘I like this.’ I returned and saw the squad a few times. They are playing some amazing football, so I would be tempted, but I haven’t really been back since Ange left.
“I don’t try to enter by the main door since I don’t feel very welcome there. It’s still a sticky connection between some Celtic fans and me, and I’m not sure if I’ve critiqued the club at the wrong time and they didn’t like it. It’s just an opinion, guys, and it’s not personal. I don’t know if he would be hounded upon his public comeback. The older folks in my generation mostly like the status I established at Celtic; I liked it just as much as they did. Being a part of Celtic history is a blessing.
