Rangers supporters were blindsided by Philippe Clement during Thursday’s AGM at Glasgow’s The Armadillo.
Without a doubt, the atmosphere would have been very different from what actually happened if the date at the Clyde Auditorium had taken place only a few days before December 5th, or perhaps a week earlier.
It’s undeniable that Rangers have had yet another difficult season, and although Clement hasn’t yet fallen to the same level as Michael Beale or Pedro Caixinha, the Belgian has been getting close. Right now, he’s most likely in the Twilight Zone instead of the Abyss that his predecessors mentioned.
A 6-0 thumping of Kilmarnock at Ibrox just 24 hours before the AGM, a 4-1 Europa League thrashing away at OGC Nice, and a slim 1-0 victory at St Johnstone have all helped the 50-year-old dodge serious talks about losing his position at Govan.
But in just over a year on the job, he has yet to secure a victory over Celtic, and his team is now 11 points behind Glasgow’s East Enders and four points behind Aberdeen in second place. Furthermore, at times, watching Rangers has been a complete bore.
Will Philippe Clement be fired by Rangers soon?
It was a strange sensation prior to the start of the AGM on Thursday because you can’t go in there and completely destroy a manager who has just won three straight games, two of which were absolutely outstanding. However, he has also underperformed, made completely absurd statements in news conferences, failed to stop the decline that began with the 2022 Europa League final, and failed to assist the Gers in correcting their flawed transfer procedures.
A four would most likely be appropriate if you were to rate Clement on a scale of 1 to 10 at this time. With a 5/10, he’s just on the wrong side of the spectrum, not quite in the middle.
“The more money you have, the better quality you can purchase and obtain.” But hard work is also important. Money isn’t the sole factor.
“To get these young talents and the older players to gel together, to do the right things together, to create a better team, we’re working really hard with everyone in the building.”
Fans attending the AGM applauded Clement’s response to a pretty challenging issue.
Are you really falling for that?
It’s manufactured, sycophantic bullshit that diverts attention from the club’s actual problems.
Well done; Rangers have a winning record. So why can’t your players, your squad, and your strategies consistently accomplish that? Why is the team trailing Aberdeen in the December league standings?
There are many questions for Clement to respond to, but either he has spent the last month attempting to compose it himself or someone higher up at the club has given it to him, which would account for some of the performances.
Clement most likely wouldn’t rank in the top 10 if you were to compile a list of all the individuals most responsible for Rangers’ problems during the past 24 months or so, with the most responsible at the top.
Although it is unjust to heap criticism on him, he greatly hurt some of the supporters at the AGM on Thursday by only telling them what they wanted to hear rather than the whole truth.
The Rangers do have a winning record. However, they might not be able to continue where they left off in 2011 for at least ten years.
