Naby Keita, the former Liverpool midfielder, has faced a challenging eight months at Werder Bremen but is now on the brink of a fresh opportunity with a new club. Hungarian side Ferencvaros are reportedly nearing a surprising deal to sign the 29-year-old Guinea international.
Keita has been sidelined at Bremen since April, following a suspension and a hefty fine after he refused to join the team bus and left for home ahead of a match against Bayer Leverkusen, upset at being excluded from the starting lineup. Since then, he has not played a single minute for the Bundesliga club, which has made it clear he is free to leave this winter.
According to BILD, Ferencvaros is poised to offer Keita an escape route by securing his services on a one-year loan starting January 2025. While his current contract with Bremen runs until June 2026, the move to Hungary is said to be progressing well. Although the transfer is not yet finalized, with contracts unsigned and a medical still pending, all parties are optimistic that an agreement will be reached within the next two to three days.
