Sunderland secured their first win in seven Championship matches against Stoke City last weekend.
Stoke City initially took the lead, but Régis Le Bris’ side responded almost immediately. Eighteen-year-old Tommy Watson, a boyhood Sunderland fan from Easington, scored his first goal for the Black Cats in just his fifth start. Watson then sealed the victory with a late winner at the Stadium of Light.
A former Sunderland captain, now part of Stoke City’s backroom staff, was booked late in the game after protesting to the fourth official and referee Craig Pawson. Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson also received a yellow card for time-wasting as the match progressed.
