Former Sunderland manager David Moyes is reportedly a candidate to take over at Wolverhampton Wanderers if the club decides to part ways with current boss Gary O’Neil.

According to The Telegraph, the 61-year-old Scot is among the names being considered to replace O’Neil, whose Wolves side has struggled this season, winning just two of their first 14 Premier League matches and sitting 19th in the table.

Wolves face West Ham on Monday in a game jokingly referred to as “El Sackico,” given the precarious positions of both managers. Should O’Neil be dismissed, Moyes is believed to be on a shortlist that includes Graham Potter and Rob Edwards, the latter being a former Wolves player currently managing Luton Town. However, Edwards’ recent struggles with Luton might weaken his candidacy.

Moyes has been out of management since leaving West Ham at the end of last season after a successful tenure that included winning the Europa Conference League in 2023. Despite enjoying his time off, Moyes recently hinted at a potential return to the dugout during an appearance on the Stick To Football podcast.

“I’ve started thinking about [management] again,” he admitted. “For three months, I’ve enjoyed having the break. But the workload over the last three years—balancing Premier League matches with European games—was intense. It was challenging, but a pleasure to be in that position.”

With Wolves reportedly considering their options, Moyes could find himself in contention for a return to Premier League management at Molineux.
