Rangers and Manchester United could clash later this season, sparking speculation of a potential partnership between the two clubs following a significant arrival at Ibrox.

Patrick Stewart is set to officially step into his role as Rangers’ CEO next week after a pivotal period for the club, which includes hosting Tottenham in the Europa League and facing Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup final at Hampden.

Stewart joins Rangers after an 18-year tenure at Manchester United, a connection that has raised questions about potential collaborations. At the club’s AGM, director Alastair Johnston hinted at the possibility of Rangers joining a multi-club partnership network, which could include INEOS-backed teams such as Manchester United and Ligue 1 side Nice, another Europa League opponent.

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson speculated on Stewart’s ability to leverage his ties with Manchester United to forge beneficial links. Speaking to the Daily Record, Ferguson said: “Alastair Johnston’s comments about the potential for Rangers to join a club network — potentially alongside Nice and Manchester United — were intriguing. With Stewart’s extensive experience at Old Trafford, it’s worth considering if discussions are already underway.

“If Stewart can open doors in his first days as CEO, it could signal a positive shift for Rangers.”
