Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Bologna forward Santiago Castro as the January transfer window approaches. The 20-year-old joined Bologna from Argentina’s Vélez Sarsfield in January last year, becoming part of the team that surprised many in Serie A last season.
This season, Castro has made a strong impression in Bologna’s first team. Despite struggling in the Champions League, with just one point from five games and an imminent exit from European competition, Bologna have remained competitive in Serie A, though not as remarkable as their standout performances last year.
Castro has netted five goals in 20 appearances this season, including notable strikes against Cesc Fabregas’ Como, AS Roma, and Europa League winners Atalanta, who are also competing in the Champions League this year. Throughout the season, Castro has played alongside Villa winger and Bologna loanee Samuel Iling-Junior, who is set to return to Birmingham next summer.
