Röhl is well-acquainted with injury setbacks, having faced them during his brief playing career before transitioning to coaching and management. He explains that he’s drawing on his own experiences to guide the defender’s recovery, focusing not only on the physical aspects but also providing mental support throughout the process.
“I spoke with him over breakfast in the morning to gain some insight,” said the Wednesday manager last week. “He’s doing well, but I think the toughest part for him is not being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s all about continuous effort—working and working—only to sometimes feel like you’ve made progress, then needing to scale back a bit. It’s a gradual process, and eventually, you might need some time off, perhaps a week-long holiday to reset mentally. I understand this personally; going through rehab alone can be challenging at times.”
