Furious Rangers fans insist that Mohamed Diomande was fouled by Nicolas Kuhn just moments before the German winger scored to put Celtic 3-2 ahead at Hampden.
The Ibrox side eventually lost on penalties after a thrilling League Cup final ended 3-3 and went the distance. As is often the case in Old Firm clashes, the game was packed with controversial moments, including a penalty appeal against Liam Scales and claims of handball after Jack Butland’s close call near the edge of his box. However, one incident that initially went under the radar but is now sparking debate online is a supposed trip by Kuhn on Diomande.
While tracking back, Diomande appeared to collide with Kuhn as the latter stopped his run near the edge of the box. The Rangers midfielder lost his balance and went to ground, leaving Kuhn unmarked near the penalty spot to score in the 86th minute, seemingly securing victory for Celtic.
There was little time to analyze the incident during the game—just 20 seconds later, Rangers equalized through Danilo’s header, forcing extra time. However, fans on social media have since dissected the footage, voicing their frustration over the lack of a free-kick. One supporter remarked, “It looks like Kuhn steps on Diomande’s foot, causing him to fall and leaving Kuhn free to score. Accidental or not, this led directly to the goal and should have been reviewed.”
Another fan added, “For their third goal, Diomande was fouled during the build-up. He would have been in the same position as Kuhn when the ball came in. We’ve seen goals ruled out for far less in this fixture.”
