Regis Le Bris, the manager of Sunderland, has had a generally successful start to the season. However, it hasn’t been simple, and Le Bris has faced criticism.
After Sunderland’s first ten games of the season, Regis Le Bris was their hero. Sunderland appeared unstoppable as they occupied the top spot in the Championship table.
However, a few subpar performances, a few subpar outcomes, and a decline in the league standings have brought the difficulties that a whole Championship campaign faces into perspective.
Additionally, Black Cats supporters have expressed their opinions about Le Bris. Sunderland supporters have specifically criticised Le Bris’ game-day substitutions and several of their selection decisions.
One could argue that Sunderland’s 3-2 comeback victory over Swansea last time out encapsulated their season thus far: occasionally really subpar, but mostly excellent.
After that game and in the run up to the Norwich City clash on Saturday, Le Bris issued a somewhat unusual opinion on his situation at the club.
Regis Le Bris’ unexpected statement regarding Sunderland’s future before Norwich City
Le Bris reflected on his first six months as manager of the Stadium of Light at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
He continued by reminding everyone—and perhaps even himself—that the football industry can occasionally be really cruel.
“I truly enjoy the connection with the people, with the project, with the players, and with everyone around the team,” Le Bris clarified.
And because of how insecure our employment is, it doesn’t happen very often. Since this time doesn’t come around very frequently, you must truly enjoy it while you can.
But why not, if you can last? We shall see. Football is still unpredictable, you know, so at least I tried my hardest and stayed focused on my work.
How long is Regis Le Bris’ contract with Sunderland?
There was a clear feeling that Le Bris’s summer hire by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Kristjaan Speakman would be a long-term arrangement.
Tony Mowbray and Alex Neil, for example, appeared to be more “there and then” choices. However, it appears that Le Bris will be responsible for bringing Sunderland to the Premier League and keeping them there.
Le Bris is a long-term hire, as evidenced by the fact that he was given a three-year deal in the summer while many who came before him were given rolling contracts.
On Saturday, Sunderland vs. Norwich City will begin at 3 p.m. at the Stadium of Light.
