Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou addressed Timo Werner’s absence from the EFL Cup quarter-final against Manchester United, explaining that Werner was sidelined due to illness. Postecoglou stated, “He woke up this morning with a fever… we had to rule him out unfortunately, so it’s just the way things are.”

Currently, Tottenham is dealing with several key players being unavailable. Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Richarlison are injured, while Rodrigo Bentancur is serving a domestic suspension.

These absences have contributed to the team’s inconsistency this season. Despite advancing to the EFL Cup semi-finals and progressing towards the Europa League knockout stages, Spurs are currently 10th in the Premier League.

Given these challenges, it’s anticipated that Postecoglou will seek to strengthen the squad during the upcoming winter transfer window. Reports suggest he may consider reuniting with Reo Hatate, a midfielder he previously coached at Celtic. Journalist Josh Hughes noted, “Ange knows and trusts the player… If Spurs go in with a reasonable transfer fee, Celtic will find it hard to keep him.”

Hatate, who has earned 10 caps for Japan, has made 112 appearances for Celtic since joining in January 2022, recording 21 goals and 20 assists.

Additionally, Tottenham has been linked with United States midfielder Johnny Cardoso, with reports indicating the club holds a preferential option on a deal with Real Betis.
