Although injuries still have a significant influence on Sunderland’s team, several players are getting closer to making a comeback.

Salis Abdul Samed should begin full training next week, according to Régis Le Bris, opening the door for a possible Sunderland debut early in the new year.

Le Bris acknowledges that the RC Lens loanee, who agreed to a season-long loan on the day of the deadline, has had a difficult time. Le Bris has reiterated that the 24-year-old would need to gradually reintegrate into competitive football after spending so much time on the sidelines, but he is finally getting close to joining the first squad.

Another deadline-day addition Despite being a little further behind Samed in his recuperation, Ahmed Abdullahi should be able to make his debut sometime in January.

“Salis should train next week, and Ahmed is currently training with the physical trainers, but we’ll have to wait another two weeks for him to join the group,” Le Bris stated.

Salis has been sidelined for the past five months, so it’s hard to predict when he will make his debut. I’m not really sure, but it might be another week or two. Being in the physio room all day while being a good player and knowing you can play for a good team is challenging. However, it has given others opportunity. That is the current situation.

At his pregame press conference, Le Bris had already stated that Dan Ballard would be sidelined for around two weeks due to a muscle injury he sustained in the last moments of the team’s 2-1 victory over Norwich City. Thus, he should be back in early January, at the same time as Romaine Mundle and Alan Browne.

However, Le Bris has cautioned that the club will exercise caution with Mundle because there is a considerable chance of a recurrence.

“We need to take care of Romaine because she has a hamstring injury,” Le Bris stated.

It may be quite challenging for him if he sustains another injury. Therefore, we must exercise caution and wait a little while longer.
