Officially, the January transfer window is now open. Additionally, Kristjaan Speakman will continue to search for methods to enhance the Black Cats’ team at Sunderland.
It appears that Sunderland’s January may go either way. One strategy is to sign a few players themselves while keeping their best players. The second is that they make too much money off of too many people, which leaves them with no time to sign new players.
However, Sunderland’s management appears to operate in a logical manner. Before selling Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town for £20 million, they stuck onto him. They won’t give up lightly if teams try to sign Chris Rigg or Jobe Bellingham in January.
However, fans want to see new players. Although a few have been discussed in the first half of the season, Sunderland supporters do believe the team needs a new striker. Most recently, Sunderland was linked to Yannick Agnero at Halmstads in Sweden.
Kristjaan Speakman appears to have the ability to support other roles as well. Midfield is one such position, and Glen Kamara is one candidate that has been mentioned.
Sunderland would be the “best place for him to go,” according to Glen Kamara.
According to recent sources, Sunderland is monitoring Kamara, a midfielder for Rennes who spent the previous season at Leeds United before completing a reported £8.4 million summer transfer to Rennes.
The Finnish international has lost ground at Ligue 1 team Rennes, and according to Football League World commentator Carlton Palmer, Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris’ French ties may be a factor in Kamara’s possible transfer.
Palmer stated: “The Black Cats will be hoping that they might have an advantage in bringing him to the UK because of their connection to French football through Regis Le Bris.”
However, he will demand guarantees over playing time from whoever he contracts with. That will be extremely significant to him.
“But Burnley and Boro are firmly in that race to get promoted, as are Sunderland,” Palmer continued after implying that Kamara would receive guarantees of playing time at the Stadium of Light.
Since he would be assured of playing football there, I believe Sunderland would be the greatest place for him to go, even though they have recently plummeted off.
“I think it would be a great move for him and for Sunderland, and they need a little experience.”
It is improbable that one player could bring Glen Kamara to Sunderland.
It would be safer to presume that Sunderland will retain both Bellingham and Rigg rather than selling either of them given their push for promotion.
In light of Salis Abdul Samed’s impending return, Kamara may find it difficult to get game time if he signs with Sunderland.
However, if Samed doesn’t start right away, he may still depart Sunderland in January. However, it appears that Sunderland’s pursuit of Kamara—or any midfield player, for that matter—is put on hold by the return of Alan Browne.
In that he is a combative, dynamic midfielder with experience, he is a very similar player. Sunderland won’t need another central midfielder once Browne returns.
