Barry Ferguson has expressed his approval of Robbie Fraser’s loan move to Livingston from Rangers during the January transfer window.
The former Rangers captain is pleased to see the club facilitate the 21-year-old’s temporary departure, believing it’s crucial for Fraser to gain consistent playing time.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (4 January), Ferguson emphasized the importance of the move for the young defender, stating: “He’s 21. I like Fraser, but it looks to me like he’s not going to get many minutes [at Rangers]. It’s important that young players go out and gain that experience. It’s good to see he’s away at Livingston to get some game time.”
Fraser’s Potential to Benefit from Livingston Loan
Having risen through the Rangers academy and captained the B Team, Fraser has shown promise as a left-back. This season, he made four senior appearances under manager Philippe Clement, although his involvement was primarily with the youth setup.
Fraser was recently brought on as a late substitute in Rangers’ 3-0 victory over Celtic at Ibrox on 2 January, replacing Jefte in the closing stages. Despite demonstrating potential, Rangers have largely relied on Brazilian defender Jefte to cover the left flank, as injuries have plagued the squad.
John Souttar and Leon Balogun remain sidelined, while Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s stint with the club appears over following an injury sustained in November. With Fraser’s opportunities for consistent first-team action limited, the move to Livingston in the Scottish Championship provides him with a vital chance to gain experience.
The Rangers faithful will hope the Scotland Under-21 international thrives during his loan spell and returns better equipped to compete for a regular spot in the first team.
