The most recent Leicester City transfer news as striker Tom Cannon, who is currently on loan at Stoke City, attracts interest from other Championship teams
After it was revealed that Championship clubs elsewhere are interested in signing forward Tom Cannon for the second half of this season, Leicester City may have to make a decision during the January transfer window in the upcoming weeks. Cannon, an Irish international who is presently on loan with Stoke City, has 10 goals this season in all competitions.
Despite starting just three league games for Enzo Maresca last season, young forward Cannon scored two goals in 13 Championship appearances. The club signed him from Everton after they were relegated to the Championship in the summer of 2023 following a successful loan stint in the second division with Preston North End. In the end, Cannon thought Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka, and Kelechi Iheanacho were tough competitors.
He has been Stoke’s undeniable focal point this season. Under former manager Narcis Pelach, he scored four goals in the rout of Portsmouth to give the team an early victory. Since then, Cannon has added significant goals in victories over Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, and most recently, Sunderland, as well as in the draw at Queens Park Rangers.
Despite having nine Championship goals, which puts him on par with players like Josh Brownhill of Burnley and Callum Lang of Portsmouth, Cannon’s remarkable comeback has drawn interest from teams throughout the Championship. Sheffield Wednesday and Luton Town are reportedly interested in the Irish international.
Stoke’s contract with City is set for the duration of the season, but clubs are free to make offers to the Foxes during the January transfer window. The parent club will then have the final say on the matter, though it’s unclear if Leicester would even consider forcing Cannon to leave after a successful first half of the season.
According to the Sun, Leicester would need to make a huge offer in order to contemplate redistributing Cannon, even though Luton and Sheffield Wednesday—the latter of which is behind Stoke in the table and the former of which is vying for the playoffs—are interested.
