According to Fussball Europa, Ryan Porteous, who has been linked to Rangers, wants to leave Watford during the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old has been linked to a move to Ibrox, according to the Daily Record on January 6. The club is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements because Philippe Clement is now reduced to bare bones due to injuries.
The Scotland international has reportedly stated his desire to leave Watford, and Hull City has already made an offer of £1.6 million.
It’s unlikely that Rangers supporters will embrace Ryan Porteous.
Porteous played with Hibs before relocating to Watford, where he became involved in a number of scandals involving the Ibrox team.
Steven Gerrard called him out when he made a vicious challenge to former teammate Joe Aribo, and he was sent out for the foul.
When the former Gers manager left for Aston Villa, Porteous ridiculed him instead of offering an apology.
Links with the 25-year-old make sense on paper, but given all the circumstances, it would be preferable to go elsewhere, even though the Gers are anxious to add quality to their backline.
Adding an unpopular player during the January transfer window will probably just serve to increase the disenchantment among fans, who are already not very convinced by Philippe Clement’s leadership of the team.
In the next weeks, hopefully, Nils Koppen will have more transfer targets in mind to sign.
