Rangers could secure Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron’s signature as soon as this month, despite previous discussions surrounding a pre-contract agreement, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.
In their print edition on 15 January (pg. 75), the outlet reported that Cameron might “join Rangers this month,” with the club’s interest in the Scottish midfielder described as firm.
Earlier reports from the Daily Record suggested Rangers were working on a pre-contract deal, with Patrick Stewart indicating their intention to “accelerate the signing of a player” they had already been targeting.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement is reportedly an admirer of Cameron, having praised the midfielder’s “decisive” passing ability earlier in the season during a discussion on the club’s YouTube channel.
Winter Signings Could Boost Rangers
The Gers’ need for reinforcements in this transfer window is clear. Securing Cameron’s arrival early could significantly enhance their prospects for the remainder of the season.
Rangers face limited opportunities to achieve success this campaign, with their Scottish League Cup final loss and a 16-point gap behind Celtic in the league. However, they do have a game in hand after Celtic’s recent draw with Cameron’s current club.
Cameron would bring youth and potential to the squad, complementing the experience Rangers are also seeking to add. The club has been linked with Manchester United defender Jonny Evans as part of their efforts to bring in seasoned players.
While Evans’ move remains uncertain, Rangers’ focus on strengthening with experienced additions is evident, and such efforts are crucial for their ambitions at Ibrox.
